Also, under Einstein’s theory of general relativity, gravity can bend time. Picture a four-dimensional fabric called space-time. When anything that has mass sits on that piece of fabric, it causes a dimple or a bending of space-time.

Under his name in the Oxford English Dictionary is the simple definition: genius. Yet for decades physicists have been asking the question: did Albert Einstein get it wrong? After half a century, seven cancellations and $700m, a mission to test his theory about the universe has finally confirmed that the man was a mastermind – or at least half proved it. The early results from Gravity Probe B, one of Nasa’s most complicated satellites, confirmed yesterday ‘to a precision of better than 1 per cent’ the assertion Einstein made 90 years ago – that an object such as the Earth does indeed distort the fabric of space and time.
But this – what is referred to as the ‘geodetic’ effect – is only half of the theory. The other, ‘frame-dragging’, stated that as the world spins it drags the fabric of the universe behind it.
Francis Everitt, the Stanford University professor who has devoted his life to investigating Einstein’s theory of relativity, told scientists at the American Physical Society it would be another eight months before he could measure the ‘frame-dragging’ effect precisely.
‘Understanding the details is a bit like an archeological dig,’ said William Bencze, programme manager for the mission. ‘A scientist starts with a bulldozer, follows with a shovel, then finally uses dental picks and toothbrushes to clear the dust away. We’re passing out the toothbrushes now.’
The Gravity Probe B project was conceived in the late 1950s but suffered decades of delays while other scientists ran tests corroborating Einstein’s theory. It was Everitt’s determination that stopped it being cancelled. The joint mission between Nasa and Stanford University uses four of the most perfect spheres – ultra precise gyroscopes – to detect minute distortions in the fabric of the universe. Everitt’s aim was to prove to the highest precision yet if Einstein was correct in the way he described gravity.
According to Einstein, in the same way that a large ball placed on a elasticated cloth stretches the fabric and causes it to sag, so planets and stars warp space-time. A marble moving along the sagging cloth will be drawn towards the ball, as the Earth is to the Sun, but not fall into it as long as it keeps moving at speed. Gravity, argued Einstein, was not an attractive force between bodies as had been previously thought.
Few scientists need the final results, which will be revealed in December, to convince them of Einstein’s genius. ‘From the most esoteric aspects of time dilation through to the beautiful and simple equation, e=mc2, the vast bulk of Einstein’s ideas about the universe are standing up to the test of time,’ said Robert Massey, from the Royal Astronomical Society.
The theory explained:
When Einstein wrote his general theory of relativity in 1915, he found a new way to describe gravity. It was not a force, as Sir Isaac Newton had supposed, but a consequence of the distortion of space and time, conceived together in his theory as ‘space-time’. Any object distorts the fabric of space-time and the bigger it is, the greater the effect.
Just as a bowling ball placed on a trampoline stretches the fabric and causes it to sag, so planets and stars warp space-time – a phenomenon known as the ‘geodetic effect’. A marble moving along the trampoline will be drawn inexorably towards the ball.
Thus the planets orbiting the Sun are not being pulled by the Sun; they are following the curved space-time deformation caused by the Sun. The reason the planets never fall into the Sun is because of the speed at which they are travelling.

According to the theory, matter and energy distort space-time, curving it around themselves. ‘Frame dragging’ theoretically occurs when the rotation of a large body ‘twists’ nearby space and time. It is this second part of Einstein’s theory that the Nasa mission has yet to corroborate.

So depending on our position and speed, time can appear to move faster or slower to us relative to others in a different part of space-time. And for astronauts on the International Space Station, that means they get to age just a tiny bit slower than people on Earth. That’s because of time-dilation effects.
Does lightning strike from the sky down, or the ground up?

The answer is both. Cloud-to-ground lightning comes from the sky down, but the part you see comes from the ground up. A typical cloud-to-ground flash lowers a path of negative electricity (that we cannot see) towards the ground in a series of spurts. Objects on the ground generally have a positive charge. Since opposites attract, an upward streamer is sent out from the object about to be struck. When these two paths meet, a return stroke zips back up to the sky. It is the return stroke that produces the visible flash, but it all happens so fast – in about one-millionth of a second – so the human eye doesn’t see the actual formation of the stroke.

The line that separates day and night is called the terminator. It is also referred to as the “grey line” and the “twilight zone.” It is a fuzzy line due to our atmosphere bending sunlight. … It is commonly thought that while half of the Earth is covered in darkness, the other half is covered in sunlight.
Like all planets in our solar system, the Earth is in an elliptical orbit around our Sun. In Earth’s case, its orbit is nearly circular, so that the difference between Earth’s farthest point from the Sun and its closest point is very small. Yes, the Sun – in fact, our whole solar system – orbits around the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. We are moving at an average velocity of 828,000 km/hr. But even at that high rate, it still takes us about 230 million years to make one complete orbit around the Milky Way! The Milky Way is a spiral galaxy.
The Bible indicates that the earth is round. Consider Isaiah 40:22 which mentions the “circle of the earth.” This description is certainly fitting—particularly when the earth is viewed from space; the earth always appears as a circle since it is round.
In Isaiah 40:22 ( Douay-Rheims Bible) states that earth is a ” GLOBE“
” It is he that sitteth upon the globe of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as locusts: he that stretcheth out the heavens as nothing, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in. “
Note, the Biblical Hebrew word for “circle” (חוג—chuwg) can also mean “round” or “sphere.”, globe.
“The Earth a Sphere—Certain astronomical relations were recognized very early. The stars appear as if attached to a globe rotating round the earth once in 24 hours, and this appearance was clearly familiar to the author of the Book of Job, and indeed long before the time of Abraham, since the formation of the constellations could not have been effected without such recognition. But the spherical form of the heavens almost involves a similar form for the earth, and their apparent diurnal rotation certainly means that they are not rigidly connected with the earth, but surround it on all sides at some distance from it. The earth therefore must be freely suspended in space, and so the Book of Job describes it:
“‘He stretcheth out the north over empty space, and hangeth the earth upon nothing’– (Job 26:7)
Another verse that indicates the spherical nature of our planet is Job 26:10. This verse teaches that God has inscribed a circle on the surface of the waters at the boundary of light and darkness. This boundary between light and darkness (day and night) is called the “terminator” since the light stops or “terminates” there. Someone standing on the terminator would be experiencing either a sunrise or a sunset; they are going from day to night or from night to day. The terminator is always a circle, because the earth is round.
One of the great delights of observing the moon through a small telescope is to look at its terminator, especially during the first or third quarter phases when the terminator is directly down the middle of the moon. The craters are most easily seen at this boundary since the sun is at a low angle and casts very long shadows there. The moon looks particularly three-dimensional when viewed through a telescope during these phases; it is clear that the moon is a sphere.
For the earth, the terminator occurs not on a cratered rocky surface, but primarily on water (since the earth’s surface is 70 percent water). Job 26:10 suggests a “God’s eye” view of the earth. This biblical passage would be nonsense if the earth were flat, since there would be no true terminator; there is no line to “step over” that separates the day from night on a flat surface. Either it is day everywhere or night everywhere on a hypothetical “flat earth.” However, the earth does indeed have a boundary between light and darkness which is always a circle since the earth is round.
Curiously, many astronomy textbooks credit Pythagoras (c. 570–500 B.C.) with being the first person to assert that the earth is round.However, the biblical passages are older than this. Isaiah is generally acknowledged to have been written in the 700s B.C. and Job is thought to have been written around 2000 B.C. The secular astronomers before the time of Pythagoras must have thought the Bible was wrong about its teaching of a round earth, yet the Bible was exactly right. It was the secular science of the day that needed to be corrected.
The Earth Floats In Space:
A very interesting verse to consider is Job 26:7 which states that God
“Hangs the earth on nothing.”
This might evoke an image of God hanging the earth like a Christmas tree ornament, but hanging it on empty space. This verse expresses (in a poetic way) the fact that the earth is unsupported by any other object—something quite unnatural for the ancient writers to imagine. Indeed, the earth does float in space. We now have pictures of the earth taken from space that show it floating in the cosmic void. The earth literally hangs on nothing, just as the Bible teaches.
From astronomy we know that the planet is hung on nothing. It is freely orbiting around the sun. In the gravitational field of the sun it is actually falling towards the sun but because of its speed it moves in a stable orbit. But nothing holds it up, because there is no up or down in space.
The direction we give to the north or south are convenient terms, but north is not any more important than south. What is truly amazing though is the fact that the Scriptures have such a statement, when more than 3,000 years ago, around the time the book of Job was written, the ‘science’ of the day (actually myths in Hindu culture) taught the earth was held on the back of four giant male elephants who stood on the back of a giant female turtle. That is probably where they get their elephant god from. And then there is in the ancient Greek mythology, Atlas, a giant Titan god, who held the earth on his back. But the Bible does not describe a fanciful myth but describes what we know to be true.
The expansion of the universe is the increase of the distance between two distant parts of the universe with time. It is an intrinsic expansion whereby the scale of space itself changes. The universe does not expand “into” anything and does not require space to exist “outside” it.

The idea might seem far-fetched, but robotic birds are very much a reality, and China has been using them to surveil people across the country.

What is Drone?
Drone surveillance is the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to capture of still images and video to gather information about specific targets.
Drone surveillance enables surreptitiously gathering information about a target as captured from a distance or altitude. Drones’ flight capabilities, small size and ability to withstand harsh environments mean they can often survey subjects that might not be accessible otherwise and can access a first-person view (FPV) that would normally be impossible for the photographer.
Drones combined with computer vision, face recognition,audio recording , object recognition and other tracking technologies are essentially flying robots.Their naturalization into the environment — sometimes referred to as ubiquitous robotics — is enabled by the combination of networking, robotics and artificial intelligence (AI). Advanced AI-capable drones can adapt to their environment and perform many autonomous tasks like following a subject and filming while they move through an area.
Radio astronomers have found the biggest hole ever seen in the universe. The void, which is nearly a billion light years across, is empty of both normal matter and dark matter. The finding challenges theories of large-scale structure formation in the universe.
Astronomers have discovered a curious empty section of space which is missing around 10,000 galaxies.

The ‘supervoid’, which is 1.8 billion light-years across, is the largest known structure ever discovered in the universe but scientists are baffled about what it is and why it is so barren.
It sits in a region of space which is much colder than other parts of the universe and although it is not a vacuum, it seems to have around 20 per cent less matter than other regions.
Although the Big Bang theory allows for areas that are cooler and hotter, the size of the void does not fit with predicted models. Simply put, it is too big to exist.
Lawrence Rudnick and colleagues of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, US, stumbled upon the void by accident. Rudnick’s team had been studying data from a survey carried out by the Very Large Array radio telescope in New Mexico, also in the US. “One morning I was a little bored, and said, ‘why don’t I look in the direction of the WMAP cold spot’,” says Rudnick.
The cold spot in question is an unexplained anomaly in the map of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) created by NASA’s WMAP satellite. The photons of the CMB coming from a region of the sky in the direction of the constellation Eridanus are colder than expected.
Rudnick’s team started looking for radio sources such as radio galaxies and quasars in the direction of the cold spot. “Radio sources track the distribution of mass in the universe,” says Rudnick. “They are the signposts for galaxies, clusters of galaxies and dark matter.”
Unexpected size:
The team was in for a surprise. They saw little or no radio sources in a volume that is about 280 megaparsecs or nearly a billion light years in diameter. The lack of radio sources means that there are no galaxies or clusters in that volume, and the fact that the CMB is cold there suggests the region lacks dark matter, too.
The void, which is about 6 billion to 10 billion light years away, is considerably larger than any found before. Until now, optical surveys have found no voids larger than 80 megaparsecs wide – making the new hole 40 times larger in volume than the previous record holder.
Rudnick says that these optical surveys could easily miss the void his team found simply because they don’t study large enough volumes.
He thinks that the void is a confirmation that dark energy is at work in the universe. Normally, when the CMB photons pass through a gravitational well, created say, by a supercluster of galaxies, they first gain energy as they fall into the well, then lose energy as they climb out.
Problem poser:
If the expansion of the universe is accelerating due to dark energy, then by the time the photons climb out, the supercluster has expanded, and its gravity is a little less strong. So the photons exit relatively easily and with more energy than they had when they entered the gravitational well.
But photons going through a void actually lose energy, ending up colder than if they had been flying through a series of superclusters. Rudnick thinks that the discovery of the void ties in neatly with the WMAP cold spot and the existence of dark energy. “What the community says remains to be seen,” he told New Scientist. “People will take shots at it now.”
Because the CMB is leftover radiation from the big bang, some cosmologists have said that the cold spot is a problem for the theories of the early universe. But Rudnick says that the void could have been created billions of years after the big bang. “We have taken the problem away from the very early universe and put the problem in the time of structure formation,” he says.
Computer simulations that recreate the formation of clusters and super-clusters have never seen voids of this size. That could be because modellers have not simulated large enough volumes to see such a void, says Rudnick. If they did, maybe a void would emerge. “It is an open question whether this will create problems for structure formation,” he says.
There’s an argument that many people make: that the natural world, and humanity’s existence in the Universe, point towards a divine creator that brought forth all of this into existence. To the best of our knowledge, Earth exists with a plethora of conditions that allowed for our existence, and does so in a way that no other world can match.

We live in a particularly privileged place. We live on a planet that has all the right ingredients for life:

👉 We’re at the right distance from our Sun so that temperatures are conducive to life.
👉We have the right atmospheric pressure for liquid water at our surface.
👉We have the right ingredients — the right balance of heavy elements and organic molecules — for life to arise.
👉We have the right amount of water so that our world has both oceans and continents.
👉And life started on our world very early, sustained itself for our planet’s entire history, and gave rise to us: sentient, self-aware creatures.
If you look at the other worlds we know of, the difference is striking.
The claim that’s often made isn’t merely that Earth is unlikely; it’s that our planet, with the confluence of circumstances that gave rise to us, is statistically impossible, even given all the stars and galaxies in the Universe. The emergence of intelligent life is so outlandishly unexpected, given all the factors that needed to occur in just the right particular order, that our Universe must have been designed specifically to give rise to us. Otherwise, the argument goes, the odds of us coming to be would be so infinitesimally small that it’s unreasonable to believe it could have happened by chance.
This is a very compelling argument for many people, but it’s important to ask ourselves three questions to make sure we’re approaching this honestly. We’ll go through them one at a time, but here are the three, so we know what we’re getting into.
What are, scientifically, the conditions that we need for life to arise?
👉How rare or common are these conditions elsewhere in the Universe?
👉And finally, if we don’t find life in the places and under the conditions where we expect it, can that prove the existence of God?
👉These are all big questions, so let’s give them the care they deserve.

The complex order in the universe. During the last 30 years or so, scientists have discovered that the existence of intelligent life depends upon a delicate and complex balance of initial conditions simply given in the Big Bang itself.
it was clear that the sun and moon had the same maker, as expressed, for instance, in the Bible. Like light bulbs from the same manufacturer’s mold, one is high wattage and the other is low wattage.
The absolute relative size of the sun and moon
So the sun and moon look the same size to our eyes. But are they the same size in reality? While ancients might have said yes, modern scientists realize that the sun is much larger.
What is the actual ratio of the size of the sun to the moon? 400 times by diameter! By volume, the sun is 1.3 million times larger! It’s like a pilates ball to a marble!
So it’s only an illusion that the sun and moon are the same size. What causes this illusion?
If you know math, the answer is obvious. The sun is 400 times farther from the Earth than the moon. Thus, they look the same to us.
Sounds like a simple explanation. The sun is 400 times wider than the moon, but it is also 400 times farther away. No mystery!
A remarkable coincidence:
But how did that happen? How did the moon get to be just the right distance from the Earth so that it looks the same size to us as the sun? There is no law in physics that requires a moon to have an inverse relationship between its size compared to its sun and the distance from its sun. Astronomers know of no other moon for which this is true, certainly not in our solar system.
Astronomers consider this fact to be “pure coincidence.”In other words, there is no logical or scientific explanation.
Can it be simple coincidence? Contemplate what is going on in a total eclipse. The sun, 92 million miles away, casts a conical quarter-million mile long shadow from the 2,000 mile wide moon that converges on a mere 60 to 70 mile pinpoint on the 8,000 mile wide Earth.
Let’s say I suspend a 100-foot-diamter orb in the air, and a mile away I suspended a basketball. You have the ability to float in the air, and I give you a baseball and ask you to place it just at the right distance so that when the orb is lit, it will cast a pinpoint shadow of the baseball on the basketball. Can you perform this feat? Only if the orb is lit. Like focusing a magnifying glass, you progressively move the baseball back or forth until the dot appears on the surface of the basketball.
But could you find the right distance if the light were off and you had no measuring tools? Even though you are intelligent and can understand the mathematics involved, your most intensive efforts to place the baseball at the right distance would fail. Yet scientists tell us that the moon got in the right place by mere chance!

Your coffee left on a counter will always become cool. Gravity remains steady, never random. The speed of light remains constant. The earth rotates in 24 hours. (This is so precise, we know the year we need to add a leap-second to our world clock, to keep it current.)
Doesn’t it seem strange that our universe is so orderly? Why is that?
Cosmologist Sean Carroll comments, “A law of physics is a pattern that nature obeys without exception.”
Scientists today take for granted the idea that the universe operates according to laws. All of science is based on what author James Trefil calls the principle of universality: “It says that the laws of nature we discover here and now in our laboratories are true everywhere in the universe and have been in force for all time.”
There’s more. As scientists record what they observe, most often they are not just using words and paragraphs. The laws of nature can be documented with numbers. They can be measured and computed in the language of mathematics.
The greatest scientists have been struck by how strange this is. There is no logical necessity for a universe that obeys rules, let alone one that abides by the rules of mathematics. The speed of light measures the same 186,000 miles per second, no matter if the light comes from a child’s flashlight or a star that’s galaxies away. Mathematically, there is an exact speed of light that doesn’t change.
Physicist Eugene Wigner confesses that the mathematical underpinning of nature “is something bordering on the mysterious and there is no rational explanation for it.” Richard Feynman, a Nobel Prize winner for quantum electrodynamics, said, “Why nature is mathematical is a mystery…The fact that there are rules at all is a kind of miracle.”
This astonishment springs from the recognition that the universe doesn’t have to behave this way. It is easy to imagine a universe in which conditions change unpredictably from instant to instant, or even a universe in which things pop in and out of existence. Instead, scientists cling to their long-held faith in the fundamental rationality of the cosmos.

Even over time, these laws remain consistent. The same laws of nature we find on earth also govern a star billions of light years away. A recent study confirmed, “One of the most important numbers in physics, the proton-electron mass ratio, is the same in a galaxy six billion light years away as it is here on Earth, according to new research, laying to rest debate about whether the laws of nature vary in different places in the Universe.”
All of modern science rests in the belief that rational laws, exist in the universe. The main category of modern scientists who propelled exploration and discovery of these laws were men and women who believed in the existence of an all-powerful God. Why? They envisioned the universe to follow laws in keeping with the rationality and majesty of God the creator. Just as God is consistent, unchanging, there is a constant nature of science. They believed that God made the universe to operate lawfully, according to divine reason and with glorious beauty.

This is quite different from people who believed in multiple gods, each affecting the universe by their own whim or temperament. In polytheistic societies, the gods were inconsistent and unsearchable and nature was governed by gods who could not be known. The universe behaved, so they thought, in as much of a mystery as their gods, with little thought that it could be otherwise. The concept of a discoverable, intelligent, orderly universe that was rational and predictable simply was not in their worldview.

Ineffective protection from this damage leads to genetic instability which can ultimately give rise to somatic disease, causing mutations. Therefore our organism commands a number of highly conserved and effective mechanisms responsible for DNA repair. If these repair mechanisms are defective due to germline mutations in relevant genes, rare diseases with DNA repair deficiencies can arise. Today, a limited number of rare hereditary diseases characterized by genetic defects of DNA repair mechanisms is known, comprising ataxia telangiectasia, Nijmegen breakage syndrome, Werner syndrome, Bloom Syndrome, Fanconi anemia, xeroderma pigmentosum, Cockayne syndrome, trichothiodystrophy. Although heterogeneous in respect to selected symptoms, these rare disorders share many clinical features such as growth retardation, neurological disorders, premature ageing, skin alterations including abnormal pigmentation, telangiectasia, xerosis cutis, pathological wound healing as well as an increased risk of developing different types of cancer. Based on the clinical similarities of symptoms as well as the predominant diagnostic technology available, many of these rare disorders were formerly classified as genodermatoses with cancer predisposition or chromosomal breakage symptoms. These pathological conditions not only severely impair patients with these rare genetic diseases but also represent symptoms affecting large parts of the general population.
